Philosophy of Education

Education, to me, is the main building block of life. However, unlike blocks, education does not

come in one container. Each day we receive a new block of education, even after we have completed all

the school we have chosen to attend. Education is something we receive everyday for the remainder of our life.

I feel that the need for education grows every year. Education was first created as “a way of

salvation”. Because school was to educate students to get a better understanding of the Holy Bible.

Although many of today’s schools do not allow God in, having the ability to learn still gives opportunity

to read and understand the Word of God. Being educated helps a person from being without things that

are needs in their life. Being educated gives the individual the opportunity to have a better job, which, in

turn lets the person have a better life.

As a teacher, I hope to give my students the best understanding of each subject. Not only do I

want to teach them academic knowledge but also the knowledge of their environment such as, finding the

hidden importance in the smallest parts of creation.

One thing which I feel is not taught clearly in our public schools is respect. Teachers expect

respect from their students, but in too many cases teacher never think to be an example. Student will

mimic what is shown to them. School may be the only place such positive examples are seen.

Teachers should listen as much as they talk. Teachers stand before students each day presenting

lessons. A teacher wants the student to listen to their words, and accept their teaching on how tot solve

problems, or write papers, but a teacher also need to listen to the needs of their students.

Teachers should be an example. As a teacher you have the perfect opportunity to reach more

young people and change more lives than anyone else out side of the church. Children will develop

habits of what they see others do more often than what is told for them to do. As a teacher, I need to show my students how important education is to me and hope they will develop an appreciation for it.

Finally, I feel a teacher should exemplify enthusiasm. Anyone can stand before a group of

students and explain how to do math or read from a textbook, but really great teachers have a passion for teaching and learning.  I feel it is never enough for a teacher to teach from a textbook, but a good teacher must teach with their heart.  As a teacher, you have the power to make a subject interesting and exciting  for the student by making it important to the student.  History, for example, can sometimes be a boring subject to some if it is only taught by events and dates.  However, if it is taught through imagination, soon the student will not just be memorizing dates, but they will be seeing the events take place with their minds, Washington crossing the Delaware, or soldiers fighting in the jungles of Vietnam.

As an educational profession once stated to me, “There are no stupid children, only inadequate teachers.”  This is so true, because without the teacher giving 110% each day to each student, you have nothing but a roomful of children wishing for the end of the day to come and leaving their seats behind as empty as their desire to learn.
